Eastern Porirua is part of the city of Porirua, located 24km north of Wellington. It has one of the highest concentrations of social housing in New Zealand, with most of these homes built in the 1960s and 1970s.

With the opening of Transmission Gully, revision of the Porirua City Council’s District Plan and the area’s population projected to grow significantly over the coming decades, the timing is right for some ambitious thinking about how we can support growth where communities can thrive - from this generation to the next.
Over the next 20 years, Te Rā Nui will see improvements to the total wellbeing of the area. From providing opportunities to build more warmer, drier homes, to improving transport, services, facilities as well as enhancing the local environment for existing and future generations to enjoy.
